About Us

Ms. Tara Shelton
Principal
School is more than a school. It's a diverse learning community of students, families and educational leaders who value and support a high-quality learning environment for everyone.
Our early childhood program is a full day high quality preschool program for children ages three and four. We are committed to creating a strong educational foundation necessary for children to succeed in kindergarten and beyond.
We believe that everyone – students, teachers, staff and parents – should follow The School Way. The School Way defines what we want to be and how we want to interact with others in our school community and beyond.
Elementary School believes in nurturing student development through varied educational opportunities, athletics and extra-curricular programming to support our students' academic, physical and emotional well-being.
Our mission is to prepare all of our students for success in high school and beyond by providing a standards-based curriculum that fosters community service, student leadership, appreciation of the arts, social and emotional development and an understanding of diversity.
At Elementary School we believe that social and emotional development of students is important to helping them achieve success. Though a variety of activities, students are provided with some out of classroom time to mix and mingle with other students.
Find key forms and links, school policies and directories in the Parents section of our website. The resources and information outlined on our website will help you stay involved in your child's education.
Elementary School is successful because of the involvement and dedication of our families, faculty, staff and most importantly, our students. You can help out by making donations to the school and volunteering where and when you can!
Individuals and businesses may make tax-deductible donations to Friends and Family of SLES, a 501(c) 3 corporation. Each year, donations collected by Friends & Family are used to upgrade or augment the school's resources beyond what is provided in the basic CPS budget.
