In addition to the fine & performing arts curriculum woven into our regular school day and extended day programs, Elementary School offers many opportunities for your child to explore his or her creative side. Activities are available in several different areas: Music, Dance, Drama, and Media & Visual Arts.
Music
School Band

The School Band is part of the regular school day and available to all students in grades 4th - 8th. The school band will participate in city-wide competitions. Instruments are provided subject to availability, and parents can rent instruments if necessary. There is a mandatory $50 band fee for students who use a school instrument, and a mandatory $25 band fee for students who rent an instrument. Chicago Children's Choir

Through a partnership with the Chicago Children's Choir, Elementary School has an in-school program that provides our school with a qualified conductor to establish a choir of 20-50 students. Students receive classroom training in basic music theory and choral performance from professional music educators. By developing musical skills and performing in public (citywide performances with other members of CCC), the children acquire poise, increased self-esteem and an understanding that discipline and hard work bring rewards. Participation is by audition.
Private Vocal Lessons

Is your child planning to be the next "American Idol"? Help him/her get a start with private vocal lessons. Our general music teacher, Ms. Anders is offering fee-based 30-minute private voice lessons afterschool Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. Spaces are limited and will fill quickly, so enroll early. Participation requires a quarterly commitment! Piano Lessons

We are offering the opportunity for your child to study in a private or paired lesson setting from Monday-Friday 4-6pm. Lessons will be 30 minutes each.
Sophie Creutz and Stephanie Carroll are both licensed Music Educators both with a Bachelors in Music Education and/or Music Performance. We have both either earned or are currently earning their Masters in Music Education.

Joffrey Ballet

More Info: The Beth Levine Bridge Program is aligned with The Chicago Guide for Teaching and Learning in the Arts and is designed to introduce students to the basic elements of classical ballet. This program provides kindergarten through first grade students with a highly structured dance experience where they also develop life skills, creativity and physical awareness. One of the main goals of the program is to identify and train the next generation of dancers at the Joffrey Academy of Dance, Official School of The Joffrey Ballet.
*Students may come to class in comfortable school clothes. Ballet entire is not required.
Drama

More Info:Lookingglass brings the world of the theatre straight to the classroom! Our teaching artists focus on teaching the "Lookingglass method", which emphasizes invention, transformation, and collaboration. In this 13 week session, students will produce their own informal show, learn to work collaboratively, develop drama skills, play theater games and much more! More Info: The ancient art of paper folding. Create a number of paper characters with instructor Ian M. Sherwin. His teaching technique is highly visual with a live step by step demonstration. Origami helps build fine motor skills and formulates an advancement in memorization.
