Drop Off and Pick Up Procedures
Branch Building
The Kindergarten and 1st grade school day begins at 8:00am and ends at 3:00pm.
Morning Drop Off Procedure
If driving and dropping off your student, please use the Kiss N' Go traffic pattern to drop off your child. Kiss N' Go is staffed by parent volunteers to assist students getting out of their cars in the morning only. In the interest of students' safety and a consistent traffic flow, under no circumstances may parents and/or guardians exit the vehicle.
Afternoon Pick Up Procedure
Kindergarten and 1st Grade: pick up on the East side of Federal Street, 3:00pm.
Main Building
The 2nd – 8th grade school day begins at 8:30 am and ends at 3:30 pm.
Morning Drop Off Procedure
Students will be allowed to enter the building at 8:00 am for breakfast at both buildings. During inclement weather students will enter the building and report to the hallway located outside of their classroom door.
Parents please utilize the Kiss N' Go (see diagram below) and follow the flow of traffic. Please drop off on the West side of the school building, curb side only.
**Student Patrol**
South Loop student leaders will be involved in all morning Kiss N' Go duties. Student patrol duties begin at 7:50am.
Important Kiss N’ Go reminders:
- PLEASE PULL ALL THE WAY FORWARD – There are nearly 900 students at South Loop. We must be organized and take all students needs into account equally for this service to work safely.
- NO DOUBLE PARKING AT ANY TIME AND DO NOT BLOCK ANY CROSS WALKS.
- DO NOT TURN OFF YOUR ENGINE in the Kiss N’ Go lane. This slows down traffic flow.
- DO NOT TALK ON CELL PHONES in the Kiss N’ Go lane. We need your full attention while dropping of and exiting the lane.
- PLEASE HAVE YOUR CHILDREN EXIT THE CAR ON THE SIDEWALK SIDE. DO NOT LET THEM EXIT ONTO THE STREET.
- HAVE BACKPACKS ready to exit vehicle versus storing in your trunk. DO NOT EXIT VEHICLE TO UNLOAD BACKPACKS.
- DO NOT PARK, TURN AROUND OR DROP OFF YOUR CHILDREN IN SOUTH LOOP SCHOOL PARKING LOT. It causes too many traffic difficulties and there have been frequent incidents of damage to parked vehicles.
- PLEASE MAKE EYE CONTACT. THE VOLUNTEERS CANNOT SEE THROUGH TINTED WINDOWS AND NEED YOU TO COMMUNICATE WITH THEM.
Afternoon Pick Up Procedure
Parents/Guardians meet your children at the designated area:
2nd Grade Rooms 124 & 127 only students will exit from the Southeast door located on the school's playground near Plymouth Court.
2nd Grade students will exit from the Southeast door located South of the Main Entrance.
3rd, 4th, 5th grade students will exit from the Main Entrance door and walk to the playground.
6th, 7th, and 8th grade students will exit from the Southwest door located on the school's playground near Federal Street. 6th - 8th grade students walk north on Plymouth Court to exit school grounds. Students cannot wait on the corners of 13th and Plymouth Court or 13th and Federal Street or in the park without parent supervision.
If your child is not enrolled in South Loop School's Extended Day Program (3:00-6:00 branch, 3:30pm - 6:00pm main), he/she must be picked up promptly at 3:00PM (branch) 3:30 PM (main). There is no student supervision after 3:00/3:30 PM; students cannot wait in the park or playground unattended. Not adhering to this policy can result in discipline according to the student code of conduct handbook.
Extended Day Pick Up Procedure
There is no parking on Plymouth Court from 3:30-6:00pm daily. Parking is available in the school's parking lot or Federal Street for student pick-up after 4:00 pm.
