Othello Comes Alive!
As part of Ms. Menoni's Othello unit, students in last year’s seventh grade (current 8th graders) collaborated with artist, and South Loop School parent, Alberto Aguilar to create a video exploring their understanding of this Shakespearean masterpiece. The result of this collaboration can be seen in the video below.
This was the 4th year that Mr. Aquilar has worked with this class. A partnership such as this is an excellent example of how South Loop School seeks to integrate art into the curriculum. The use of this art medium helped the students explore what they were learning in language arts. Consequentially, this helped the students develop a deeper meaning of the play and bring the text to life. This was the first art integration project that focused on language arts, with previous collaborations focused on art and math intergration.
The video demonstrates how students can learn in a variety of ways, and have fun while doing it. It is like the “Cliff Notes” version, but more fun!
The video was featured as part of an art exhibition at the Roots & Culture Contemporary Art Center by Mr. Aguilar. More information about the artist can be found at his website.
