SOFTBALL LEAGUES

We are excited to announce expanded programming forSheridan Park's2011 Girls' Softball Leagues! Registration for all leagues may be accessed via the link after each league description.  

SLOW Pitch Softball
League #1 (for 1st & 2nd Graders) - INSTRUCTIONAL   

League Basics:

·        League is for girls.

·        Games will be played on Saturday mornings at Sheridan Park* with the season going from early May and possibly extending into mid-July.

·        Program is highly instructional in nature with a low rating on competitiveness.

·        $125/player.

Age/Skill Level:    

·         Players are 1st & 2nd graders at of the start of the season.  

·         3rd graders may request to play in this league if they are new to softball and/or want a less competitive, more instructional environment.

High Level Rules:

·         Coaches pitch over course of season.

·         Kids will bat around in each inning and are pitched to until they hit the ball.

·         We envision approximately 20-30 girls in this league.

·         Rather than divide into formal teams for the season, girls in this league will show up on Saturdays, work on drills and then coaches will split girls into teams for a two inning game.  Thus kids will play with a different group each week, thereby keeping the competition fresh.

·         Balls for this league are 11" in diameter and the soft, instructional type.

·         Coaches will umpire.

SLOW Pitch Softball

League #2  (for 3rd - 5th Grader)

League Basics:

·         League is for girls.

·         Games will be played on Saturday mornings at Sheridan Park* with the season going from early May and possibly extending into mid-July.

·         Program is instructional but with a higher degree of competitiveness than League #1.

·         $125/player.

Age/Skill Level:

·         Players are 3rd - 5th graders at of the start of the season.

·         3rd graders who play in this league have played before and are comfortable with some instruction, but more competition. (i.e. 3 outs in an inning, strike outs, minimal batting around)  

·         5th graders who play here are those who would prefer to not play in the upper girls fast pitch league, and who want more instruction and a less competitive environment.

High Level Rules:

·         Coaches pitch for majority of season.  Some pitching by select girls may be considered later in the season.

·         First couple weeks of season, teams will bat around to ensure everyone gets a fair share of "at bats", but coaches will eventually determine when teams start to keep score and play 3 outs.

·         Girls will be divided as equally as possible based on age and skill across 3-4 teams that will compete against each other over the course of the season.

·         Balls for this league are 11" in diameter and the soft, instructional type.

SHERIDAN PARK 2011 SPRING SEASON
Girls FAST Pitch Softball
League #3 (6th - 8th Graders)

League Basics

·         League is for girls.

·         Season starts in early May and could extend into mid-July.

·         We envision 2-3 teams from Sheridan playing against several teams from other parks.  Games will be played at Skinner, Livingston and Hoyne Parks on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

·         Program is instructional for fast pitch softball and also competitive.

·         $125/player.

Age/Skill Level:

·         Players are primarily 6th - 8th graders at of the start of the season.

·         5th graders may play in this league but need to be skilled and ready to take the next step.  However, they will be placed on a team of 5th and 6th graders (coached by Robert Hawkins) who will compete against teams with 7th and 8th graders. The girls will get both instruction AND  more playing time by playing with girls of their own age.

High Level Rules:

·         Girls will pitch in this league and play typical high school softball rules.

·         Regulation 12" softballs will be used.

·         Umpires utilized.
