Breakfast in the Classroom
Breakfast in the classroom will be implemented in all elementary schools by June 30, 2011. South Loop's "Breakfast in the Classroom" program will begin on Thursday, April 14th. It will take 10 to 15 minutes --- from the time students arrive in the classroom, while listen to morning announcements, until they put their breakfast things away. Breakfast stations are set up close to the building entrances. As students come into the school, they will have a choice of a hot or cold breakfast. Students may choose not to take a breakfast.
Nutrition Support Services follows the guidelines established by the USDA for food allergies. Mrs. Betty will continue to order non-peanut food items and make substitutions for our students with severe food allergies. If a child's allergy is a disability and the parent provides a physician's statement for food substitution, Nutrition Support Services will make the substitutions for all meals served at the school.
As a staff, we received an in-service for this program and feel that we can ensure no loss of instructional time and continue to monitor our students' food allergies.
If you have any concerns please contact Mrs. Shelton at (773)534-8690.
