Free Science Saturday: Engineering
Saturday, April 9 from 10:30 - 1:00 at Nettelhorst School, 3252 North Broadway
Sign up now for an exciting, free Science Saturday for you and your 6th or 7th-grader, full of hands-on experiments and demonstrations -- working alongside the best and brightest scientists from Northwestern University!
This event (limited to 50 kids + parent) lets you and your child share unique hands-on learning experiences, working directly with Northwestern University experts:
- Cymatics, the study of visible sound and motion. You and your kids will witness an Oobleck in action - they'll SEE sound, and have the phenomenon explained by Northwestern staff who know their stuff.
- A Laser Harp - literally, a musical instrument made of light - that allows you to make music by touching the beams. Again, this will be explained and operated by the wonderful Northwestern engineering team.
- A hands-on Mousetrap Car Race, where your child will join a small team to build your own car and turn potential energy into kinetic energy. Northwestern grad students and professors will assist and advise as your team creates their car, and enters it in a race against the other teams' creations!
-A talk and Q&A with a member of Google's Chicago team, about how technology plays a part in your child's lifepath and plans now, through college, and as a career.
Again, it's all free, but enrollment is limited to the first 50 parent/child pairs. Northwestern and Nettelhorst ask that you register only if you are certain you can come; registrants who do not attend the event will be leaving an empty seat that another child could have filled. If you know parents of 6ht/7th graders who love science, please forward this email to them.
Science Saturday: Engineering is hosted by Northwestern's student chapter of the professional engineering society, the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) and is co-sponsored by Google. Hope to see you there!
